This Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of the license that allowed the U.S. oil company Chevron to operate in the Bolivarian nation. In response to this measure, Venezuela’s Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, issued a statement, describing it as “harmful and inexplicable.”
Rodríguez stated that “by announcing sanctions against the U.S. company Chevron, intending to harm the Venezuelan people, they are actually inflicting damage on the United States, its population, and its companies.”
Rodríguez also emphasized the Venezuelan government’s stance against these actions, asserting that “the constitutional government of Venezuela and its people, in great national unity, categorically reject this type of action publicly requested by the extremist and failed opposition of the country.”
Furthermore, she highlighted that such measures have had severe consequences in the past, noting that “these types of failed actions drove migration from 2017 to 2021, with the widely known consequences.”
Despite the adversity, Rodríguez assured that “Venezuela will continue on its path of comprehensive economic recovery, ensuring it through the creative efforts of all and in absolute adherence to its sovereignty and national independence.”
Quoting the liberator José Gervasio Artigas, she concluded: “Let us expect nothing but from ourselves.”
The decision could have a significant impact on Chevron’s operations and reduce the oil revenues of President Nicolás Maduro’s government, in shameful an attempt to exert economic pressure on his administration.
